Holland, Michigan...Welch Laboratories has changed its name to WelchDry to mark its 20th anniversary as a Holland-based contract manufacturer.
"We're proud to be celebrating 20 years providing flowable powders to the pharmaceutical, animal health, food, nutraceutical, and consumer products markets," said David Vander Heide, president of WelchDry. "Our new name better reflects our position as the leading expert in dry roller compaction."
WelchDry's roller compaction process uses mechanical pressure to compress fine powders into denser sheets, which are granulated through a milling system and a series of screens to achieve precise, uniform granules.
"Dry roller compaction is free of the liquid binders, alcohol solvents, and high temperature drying requirements of wet granulation processes, making it ideal for materials sensitive to moisture and heat," said Vander Heide. "Dry roller compaction results in a higher quality, consistent granule—usually at a lower cost."
WelchDry serves a growing number of Fortune 500 and middle market consumer packaged goods companies in the critical manufacture of many products, including prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) pharmaceuticals; nutraceuticals, including vitamins, minerals, and supplements; starch-based products; detergents; food products; animal health products; and selected specialty compounds. While the majority of WelchDry's customers are in the United States, the company serves the global market for dry roller compaction.
WelchDry is FDA registered and cGMP compliant and provides services including research & development, scaleup trials, dry roller compaction, chilsonation, milling, blending, pulverization, sieving, dry granulation, briquetting, packaging, warehousing, and distribution. By combining dry roller compaction expertise with ongoing support services—from trial through scale-up to production—WelchDry is often able to provide significant cost savings and added value over the life of the client's product.

Registered pharmacist Richard Welch, RPh, and his wife, Linda, founded Welch Laboratories in 1989. The company was purchased in 2006 by David Vander Heide and Sean Schaap.

Borns was charged with renaming Welch Laboratories. The objective was to capture Welch's distinction and more clearly convey their core competency.
Welch is the only company in North America and one of only a handful in the world that specializes in dry roller compaction. The name Welch has much brand equity so, Borns combined 'Welch' and 'Dry' for a shorter name with more meaning than Welch Laboratories. No such name existed and the website domain WelchDry.com was available so, the name idea was quite viable.
Borns incorporated the descriptor, "the roller compaction expert" to add even more clarity to WelchDry's identity. Between the name and descriptor, the identity now includes the term "dry roller compaction."
